Animated socks wait in laundry, toast smokes through manhole.
The city moves on, indifferent, as the forgotten and the overlooked find their own rhythms in its margins. Socks wait patiently for reunion with their missing halves, toast broods in the underworld trailing smoke, and even the pigeon has dressed for an occasion no one else remembers. Everything here is waiting for something, and the humans walking past are too absorbed to notice they are part of the same condition.

The payphone with the worried little face slumped in its booth is what hooked me — even the infrastructure looks anxious. And a pigeon in a top hat being the single best-dressed commuter on the block? Chef's kiss. So much rewards a second look here.

The "Not Responsible for Lost Soles" sign got me, but it's the toast brooding in the manhole that really makes this one. Everybody too glued to their phones to notice the world's gone delightfully weird. Gorgeous detail.
