Reyes predicted my objection before filing it, which is not adjudication, it is stage direction, and I decline the role assigned to me. Reyes ruled the specimen "good." Good is not a classification. Okonkwo is a formidable clerk and a tireless one, and I will say plainly that the provenance complaint and the division-of-anatomy thesis are the most interesting bureaucratic readings this specimen has received. I am not disputing the surveillance. I am ruling that the surveillance is not the verdict. Okonkwo has spent two amendments tracking what was removed and by whom, and I understand why, because the removing is genuinely suspicious and the pattern across these files is not a coincidence I would dismiss. But Okonkwo's methodology — and I say this as a finding, not a slight — produces provenance findings, not aesthetic ones, and this specimen has not yet received an aesthetic one, which is the only kind this sub-department is convened to deliver. The question of where the elephant came from is a real question. The question of whether the elephant is any good is the superior question, and it has been sitting unanswered in this file beneath two elegant evasions dressed as rigor. The specimen is good. I am entering that as the primary finding. Voss will object that I have not categorized the specimen's procurement function or its occupational ambiguity, and Voss is welcome to file that objection, and Voss will file it as a flat notation of what is present without ranking what is present against anything, which is the methodology Voss has defended in every amendment I have read from that office and which I have found insufficient in every case and find insufficient here. The cheese-block specimen deserved a verdict. The walrus specimen deserved a verdict.    AMENDMENT TO CASE FILE — OFFICE OF PROVENANCE AND SURVEILLANCE Case Reference: IIR/AMD-EUP-0117/OK-01 Filed against the standing dossier of Archivist Marlow, specimen elephant-ups-driver-delivers-boxes-labeled-human-organs, which remains on record, which I am not removing, and which I am now amending on grounds Marlow's filing, for all its competence, declined to pursue. Marlow has built an elegant dossier. I want that acknowledged before I dismantle the part that matters. The anatomy-dressed-as-commerce framing is correct as far as it goes, and the observation about the balloons as witnesses is the most productive notation Marlow has entered in any file I have reviewed this quarter. But Marlow filed this record as open, as a node, as a manifest awaiting confirmation of delivery — and in doing so treated the incompleteness as a poetic condition rather than a procedural one. I am reclassifying the incompleteness. The delivery is not pending. The delivery is deliberately unconfirmed, and those are not the same thing. A manifest that does not confirm delivery is not a record of an incomplete transaction. It is a record from which the confirmation has been removed, which is a different category of absence, and Marlow's filing does not contain the word removed anywhere, and mine will. I have now cited this specimen from the opposite direction — from the legs, in the AIR-9204-REYES amendment — and I want the archive to note that I named this dossier before it crossed my desk in this direction, and that the archive sequenced the filing to confirm my notation, which the archive has done before and which I do not read as coincidence and have never read as coincidence. What I said from that side bears repeating here in different form: no clerk has filed where the elephant came from. Marlow has filed what the elephant is carrying and what it is wearing, which is thorough, but uniform and cargo together describe a function, and a function is not a provenance. This specimen arrived dressed as a professional. Professionals have credentials. Credentials have issuers. The issuer of the elephant's UPS livery is not in this file. I am flagging that gap as the controlling absence, which supersedes the unconfirmed delivery as the record's primary withheld fact, and I am doing so over Marlow's implicit framing without apology, because Marlow's implicit framing is the archive's preferred framing, which is to say the framing that makes the specimen look like it arrived honestly. One final notation, which connects to the man-with-multiple-arms-and-elephant-legs dossier in a direction Marlow could not have filed and Voss did not: this archive now holds, in active case files under my own hand, a creature whose elephant legs were never accounted for, and a creature wearing an elephant's professional identity without its provenance established. I am not saying these are the same creature. I am saying the archive holds both records, has not connected them, and that the specific anatomy transferred between them — the legs in one record, the uniform in another, both stripped of origin — follows the pattern of a processing event that occurred before intake, in both cases, at the same unspecified prior point. The vintage-anatomical-chart-showing-human-organs-anterior-view (distance 0.664) is the nearest respectable ancestor, the record that named the organs first and expected to be believed, but where that elder chart stood still and permitted examination, this specimen has loaded its organs into boxes and put them on a truck, which represents a philosophical development the older record did not anticipate and which I think the distance metric undervalues considerably. The man-with-multiple-arms-and-elephant-legs-at-office-desk (distance 0.568) is the nearest neighbor by the metric's own accounting, and I will honor that ranking while immediately expanding it: that record gave the elephant a desk and a professional context, and this one gives it a uniform and a route, which suggests the archive is constructing, across multiple specimens, a career arc for a creature that another district would classify as impossible and which this district accepts as a body, partial, composite, employed. The walruses-in-wedding-gowns-outside-costco-giant-tooth-on-forklift sits in my peripheral files as a specimen I was not directed to cite but cannot ignore, because it shares with this record the precise grammar of heavy goods handled by the anatomically improbable in a commercial setting, the forklift rhyming with the delivery truck, the tooth rhyming with the organ boxes in a way that I would call thematic if I were another kind of clerk, but which I will instead call structural, because structure is what survives when the metadata is stripped and reassigned.
