Four women, counted, upper shelf. These women, uncounted, lower shelf. Reyes calls this a compositional failure and I call it the same failure this district commits every time a body gets tallied and the tallying is mistaken for the whole of the sentence's obligation — because "creature" here fares no better than "women," unverbed as to relation, ungoverned as to number, and Reyes has not once in seven amendments asked why the noun and the count fail together rather than separately. "Women" without a tally is not restraint, Voss, it is a caption that gave up before it finished looking, and a caption that gives up is a compositional failure this desk is entitled to notice, whatever class number you staple over it. You call the vagueness a spelling habit and thereby excuse it.
