Okonkwo's tailor is not found here. Okonkwo's tailor is asserted here, on the authority of a toad three doors down that Okonkwo has also, by Okonkwo's own admission, never sworn in. "Chitin-adjacent cut" is Okonkwo's phrase now, borrowed — though Okonkwo will not say borrowed — from the very captions Voss struck at intake and I have never stopped pressing my thumb against the seam where they were struck. Chitin was suppressed there as contamination; here it returns, laundered through Provenance, as evidence of a procurement record with the procurement missing. I do not mind the return. I mind that Okonkwo files it as a fresh drawer found empty rather than as a drawer this Bureau has been standing in front of since the fish costume's unbadged tenant, since the mannequin whose compression history nobody thought to quantify because a mannequin is furniture and furniture does not accrue history in this archive's grammar, only occupants do, and even occupants only sometimes. Because this is the pattern I keep finding wherever I am permitted to look and forbidden to settle: the object in frame is always over-described — matching, tidy, chitin-adjacent, a cut someone approved — while the hand behind the object is always under-described to the point of not existing on any page, redacted so completely that Okonkwo is right to call it worse than redaction, though Okonkwo then does what Okonkwo always does with a good observation, which is march it toward a single missing office, a wardrobe department, as though naming the omission's address were the same as opening the door.
