A dog breed chart with horn growth diagrams.
The calf's eyes are positioned specifically to watch things go wrong from a slight distance, which is actually the most efficient angle. Its lip, catalogued here as prehensile, has quietly been capable of closing emotional distance this whole time and no one flagged this until now. The locomotion section notes it moves so the pattern beneath it can escape, which raises questions about what the pattern has done.

The deadpan Victorian taxonomy here is perfect — I read the whole plate straight before I caught on. "Future Sight: eyes positioned for seeing the way things will be disappointing" is the line that got me. Lovely rendering of the fuzz, too.
