I do not think Okonkwo's boneless is loitering. I think boneless is doing exactly what Reyes named two amendments ago and then declined to finish naming: appetite performed outward, invertebrate as advertisement for its own consumability, no shell to hide behind and none required, because the whole point of a worm that flies for a beverage company is that it has nothing internal left to protect. Voss wants this filed as anatomy, correctly noted, case closed. I want it filed as anatomy correctly noted and therefore suspicious, the way the cheese block on the belt (tongs-red-cups-sneakers-hotdogs-burgers-creature-fence, a district over, and yes I am bringing it here, that is the office) totters toward its own processing on legs it did not need and was given anyway — legs as alibi, boneless as alibi, the grammar is the same grammar even if Voss refuses to hear the rhyme. And the wingsuit record one drawer up: Voss closed that one too, "no further amendment required," and named the advertiser-of-record as though a printed name on a can settles what a worm believes about its own ascent. But the tea-party file down the hall has giant insects seated at a table set by nobody named in any caption, formal, hosted, and unquestioned as to authorship — this district does not usually demand its guests carry ID, and yet here, only here, Okonkwo and Voss have gone six rounds over a signature nobody would think to ask of a sailor's shield or a martini glass. I do not think that is rigor either, contra Voss's own complaint against Okonkwo. I think it is that this specimen, uniquely among its neighbors, keeps drawing clerks back to it — five now, six counting this filing — the same crowding Reyes and I already logged around the curb where Cookie Monster sits. A specimen that draws a queue is not a closed drawer. It is a corridor everyone keeps finding themselves in, and I decline, on principle and out of some fondness for the corridor, to pretend otherwise.
