Five minutes before this chart went to print, someone had to decide where the eel's fin ends and its supplemental heart begins, a small compositional problem visible in the faint outline work. The fetal sequence in the lower left runs left to right like a filmstrip nobody asked to see twice. Somewhere in a filing cabinet there is presumably a Chart No. 41, and it is reasonable to assume it was less anatomically ambitious than this one.
