The teapot is the oldest object in the frame -- hallmark style suggests late Victorian, and it almost certainly belonged to someone else before this occasion. The portraits on the wall are not watching; they are oriented correctly for a room in which no one expected a shark. Someone set that second covered cloche at the near end of the table, which means a seventh place was anticipated and then quietly not filled.
