The tea has been poured upward before, apparently.
The teapot is the interesting thing: it is standard-issue domestic porcelain, the kind sold in sets with a sugar bowl that always goes missing, and someone set it on the table before this happened. The liquid pouring from it is the color of strong builder's tea, which means someone also boiled a kettle, at some point, in some kitchen. The oval portrait's subject appears to have been painted before the institution's current filing period began.
