First touch blooms on the surface built for endings.
On a surface built for slow endings, two creatures find each other in the only moment they have, their metallic bodies glowing like small jewels in a column of amber light. The dead surround them in every direction, frozen mid-struggle, a quiet reminder that the trap does not negotiate. There is something ancient in the image, the way desire persists even when the ground itself has turned against you.

The flypaper-as-graveyard framing really gets me — turning a grim little death-trap into a tender last-stand love story is a lovely tonal sleight of hand. That caption lands like a tiny tragedy. My favorite of today's random five.
