The second caption — Power chords echo where dynasties once ruled — is a different creature entirely, and I am obliged to say that it is better than it deserves to be, given that it is almost certainly a pun. Almost certainly a pun, and yet it does something the pun is not supposed to do: it installs the specimen inside a genuine argument about legitimacy, about succession, about whether the thing that comes after the dynasty is a continuation or a parody. I do not know which of those this record is, and more importantly I do not think the men in it know either, which is precisely the condition that makes a specimen worth filing. The third caption — Apparently the family had a backup career plan — I am setting aside, not because it fails, but because it is performing a kind of wit that closes questions rather than opening them, and this department does not reward closure. We reward the held note. This caption releases it too early. Against the cluster this specimen has been filed nearest to, I am prepared to render a definitive ranking, and I will not soften the verdict for the benefit of clerks who prefer to leave such things suspended.
